Guthrie county—Iowa |
|
Welcome to Guthrie county—iowa! |
|
The Guthrie County Tourism Council hopes you will enjoy your stay — whether it is for an hour, a day, or a lifetime.
GUTHRIE COUNTY is beautiful with its scenic rolling hills of the Raccoon River Valleys and the flatlands of prime Iowa farmland in eastern Guthrie County. Created by the last glacial layer, called the Wisconsinian, over 12,000 years ago, the beautiful landscape has something to offer everyone. Feel like going for a drive? You can travel the Western Skies Scenic Byway or the historic White Pole Road. Experience rolling meadows, boundless horizons, and wide-open roads while traveling through Guthrie County and be on the lookout for the many Barn Quilts along the way. Feel like fishing? Head to the Middle Raccoon River for excellent fishing. Don't forget to bring your canoe. With several access ramps located along the Middle Raccoon, you can experience the beauty of the river - one of only five protected waterways in Iowa. Feel like biking, rollerblading, or just taking a nice walk? Head to the Raccoon River Valley Recreational Trail on the former Milwaukee RR line. Bring along your binoculars for some spectacular bird watching, too.
So, whether you're walking, biking, canoeing, driving, or even flying (yes, we have an airport: Guthrie County Regional Airport), come on over to Guthrie County! You'll be glad you did...and just maybe, you'll want to stay a while. See you soon!
